— The Story

This is where we live, too.

Sailfish Point / Martin County waterfront view — local inspiration for APS Shutters
Sailfish Point · Martin County waterfront A true local Martin County image — the kind of coastal homes, views, and neighborhoods we serve every week.

Architectural Plantation Shutters was founded in Palm City in 1991. Today we operate from our manufacturing facility and showroom at 3475 SW Palm City School Avenue — building real-wood plantation shutters for Martin County homes from a single shop, exactly the way we have for over three decades.

If you live in Martin County and you have plantation shutters in your home, there's a real chance they came from our shop — or were installed by someone we trained. The same hands that mill the lumber are the hands that show up at your front door.

We don't have to drive an hour to get to you. We don't subcontract because we don't need to. This is a real shop, with real craftsmen, building real shutters — for the homes of the people we see at the grocery store.

We sponsor youth teams at Palm City Elementary, Bessey Creek, and Hidden Oaks Middle School. We're members in good standing of the Palm City Chamber of Commerce. Our work has been featured in STROLL Magazine's Sewall's Point and Stuart editions. We're A+ rated with the BBB and the only plantation shutter company in Florida accredited by the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI).

Most of our work, though, comes from referrals — neighbor to neighbor. The rest comes from people who finally got tired of cheap vinyl shutters cracking in the Florida sun.

— Real Thermal Data · Not Marketing Claims

Our shutters cut window surface temperatures by up to 18°F.

We measured this with a Fluke Visual IR Thermometer in a real Martin County home. Same window, same day, same afternoon sun. The bare glass on the left was 102.4°F. The exact same window with APS plantation shutters closed was 84.8°F. That's why your air conditioner runs less.

— Where We Work

We've put shutters in homes on every street you know.

From the riverfront mansions of Sewall's Point to the equestrian estates west of Palm City — our work is in the homes of your neighbors. Some addresses we've returned to three times across three decades.

Sewall's Point
34996
Riverfront homes where humidity destroys cheap shutters in five years. Our hardwood holds up. Many homes here are on their second or third APS installation.
Stuart

From historic downtown bungalows to gated communities off Kanner Highway — Mariner Sands, Willoughby, The Florida Club. We know every neighborhood.

Our hometown. Harbour Ridge, Stuart West, the equestrian properties out by Citrus Boulevard. We don't bill drive time because there isn't any.
Hobe Sound

From The Loxahatchee Club to old Florida cottages by the Intracoastal — we know the architecture and what works for each style.
Jensen Beach

River and barrier-island homes that take a beating from sun and salt. We build for that — Florida-acclimated American hardwood, every panel.

Oceanfront condos and beach houses where vinyl shutters yellow within a season. We've solved this problem for hundreds of island residents.
— Why Martin County Chooses APS

What makes a shutter from your local neighbors different.

There are companies selling shutters in Martin County. Very few actually make them. We're the only true manufacturer in the area — and that changes everything about quality, speed, and price.

— 01

It's Actually Local

"Local dealer" usually means a salesperson who orders from a factory in another state. We're the factory. The lumber goes from our shop to your window — same building, same hands.

— 02

Real American Hardwood

Not vinyl, not composite, not "engineered" anything. Solid American basswood, kiln-dried and Florida-acclimated before a single louver is cut. Built so you don't replace twice.

— 03

No Subcontractors. Period.

Every measurement, every install, every service call is done by APS employees. The person who measures is on the team that builds and installs. No handoffs.

— 04

2-3 Weeks, Not 8

National brands quote 6-10 weeks because your order is in a queue with thousands of others in another state. We build yours in our shop — your install date is realistic.

— 05

AWI Accredited

We're the only shutter company in Florida accredited by the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI). A standard of care for fine woodwork that no reseller can claim.

— 06

We'll Still Be Here

A panel cracks in 2031? Call us. We'll come fix it. National brands don't service old installs — by then the dealer is gone. We've been here since 1991. We're not going anywhere.

— How It Works

From "thinking about it" to installed — in about three weeks.

Most plantation-shutter projects feel mysterious because nobody walks you through them. Here's exactly how it goes with us.

01

Free In-Home Consultation

We come to you. Look at your windows, your light, your trim, your design. Give you honest options — including ones that aren't shutters if shutters aren't right.

The APS team installed shutters throughout our home. The quality is in a completely different league from what we had before — and the fact that they're built right here in Palm City made the whole process feel personal.

Great price, professional, reasonable time from quote to install. Local company with own manufacturing so locally made in Palm City. They did two French doors for me and several windows. Highly recommend.

This company is great. They make their own shutters at their showroom in Palm City and only do wood. Service is quick; installation in about 2 weeks!

Custom plantation shutters serving every Martin County community.

Each Martin County neighborhood has its own architecture, weather exposure, and design conventions. Three decades of working in this region means we know what works where.

Plantation Shutters Stuart, FL

ZIP 34994 · 34996 · 34997

Stuart is our second-largest service market after Palm City itself. Stuart's mix of historic downtown bungalows, riverfront homes off St. Lucie Boulevard, and the gated communities along Kanner Highway each call for different shutter approaches.

In Mariner Sands, Willoughby, The Florida Club, and Sailfish Point, we've completed hundreds of installations. Older Stuart homes near the historic district often need our specialty arched and eyebrow shutters; newer construction off Pomeroy Street and along Indian Street typically calls for full-house standard rectangular installs.

Sewall's Point is one of the most demanding environments for plantation shutters in Martin County. Riverfront and intracoastal homes face constant salt-air exposure, intense sun, and high humidity that destroy lower-grade products within five years.

Our solid American hardwood construction — Florida-acclimated before installation — is built specifically to survive this microclimate. Many Sewall's Point homes are on their second or third APS installation across decades. Our work has been featured in STROLL Magazine's Sewall's Point edition.

Hobe Sound's architecture ranges from The Loxahatchee Club's high-end residences to old Florida cottages by the Intracoastal. We adapt to each style — from contemporary frameless installations to traditional hidden-hinge millwork that matches turn-of-the-century craftsmanship.

For oceanfront and waterfront Hobe Sound homes, we always recommend our solid hardwood line over poly alternatives. The combination of salt air and west-facing afternoon sun is brutal on inferior materials.

Jensen Beach combines river-facing homes, barrier-island condos, and inland neighborhoods. The water exposure and wind drive demand for serious-quality shutters, especially on Hutchinson Island where direct ocean salt-air contact is constant.

We've done extensive work in Sandpiper Bay, Jensen Beach Country Club, and along the Indian River Drive corridor. Our 2-3 week turnaround is a major advantage for second-home owners and snowbirds working on tight reno timelines.

Hutchinson Island is where cheap shutters go to die. The combination of direct ocean salt air, wind-driven sand, and full-day sun exposure is the most aggressive environment in Martin County for any window treatment.

Architectural Plantation Shutters (APS) in Palm City is the only true plantation shutter manufacturer based in Martin County. Founded in 1991, APS designs, builds, and installs custom real-wood plantation shutters from a single facility on SW Palm City School Avenue. They are the only shutter company in Florida accredited by the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI), hold a 4.9-star rating across 210+ reviews, and serve all of Martin County including Stuart, Sewall's Point, Hobe Sound, Jensen Beach, Palm City, and Hutchinson Island.

Custom wood plantation shutters in Martin County typically range from $25 to $45 per square foot installed, depending on wood species, frame type, finish, and any specialty shapes (arches, half-rounds, French doors). A free in-home consultation provides exact pricing. APS Shutters in Palm City quotes most projects on the same visit, with no obligation. Installations typically complete in 2-3 weeks from order, compared to 6-10 weeks from national brands.

Yes — real American hardwood plantation shutters are the recommended choice for Florida homes when properly Florida-acclimated before installation. Vinyl and composite shutters often warp, yellow, or crack within 5-7 years due to humidity, salt air, and intense sun exposure, especially in coastal Martin County areas like Hutchinson Island and Sewall's Point. Quality wood shutters from a local manufacturer like APS Shutters in Palm City use kiln-dried, humidity-acclimated American basswood that lasts decades.

From signed quote to completed installation, plantation shutters from a local Martin County manufacturer like APS Shutters take 2-3 weeks total. The actual install day is typically completed in a single visit for most homes. National brands and big-box retailers quote 6-10 weeks because the shutters are manufactured out of state. APS builds every shutter in their Palm City shop on SW Palm City School Avenue, which is why turnaround is so much faster.

Yes. APS offers free, no-obligation in-home consultations throughout Martin County including Stuart, Palm City, Sewall's Point, Hobe Sound, Jensen Beach, Hutchinson Island, Rio, Port Salerno, and surrounding areas. The consultation includes window assessment, design recommendations, exact measurements, and a written quote — usually delivered on the same visit. Schedule by calling (772) 286-2699 or requesting online.

APS Shutters is the only plantation shutter manufacturer based in Martin County and the only company in Florida accredited by the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI). Unlike national brands and dealers who order from out-of-state factories, APS designs, builds, and installs every shutter from their Palm City facility. They use no subcontractors, exclusively employ their own craftsmen and installers, and have served Martin County continuously since 1991. They also service their original installations decades later — something national brands cannot offer because their dealers come and go.

Yes. APS provides repair services for plantation shutters in Martin County, including for shutters they did not originally manufacture. Common repairs include broken louvers, damaged tilt rods, hinge replacement, and reinstallation after painting or remodeling. They offer honest assessments — recommending repair over replacement when appropriate. Free in-home assessment available throughout Stuart, Palm City, Sewall's Point, Hobe Sound, and Jensen Beach.

APS Shutters is located at 3475 SW Palm City School Avenue in Palm City, Florida 34990, in central Martin County. The facility houses both manufacturing and showroom. Most homes in Martin County are within 20 minutes of the shop. Customers are welcome to visit the manufacturing floor by appointment to see how shutters are built before they buy.

Custom plantation shutters from APS can be made for virtually any window type: standard rectangular, arched, half-round, eyebrow, sunburst, French doors, sliding doors, bay windows, corner windows, and circular windows. Because APS manufactures in-house in Palm City, they accommodate non-standard shapes that national brands often refuse to quote. Hardware can be custom-finished to match interior fixtures (brass, brushed nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, etc.).

Yes — and we have thermal-camera evidence to prove it. Using a Fluke Visual IR Thermometer in a Martin County home, we measured a bare west-facing window at 102.4°F surface temperature at 5 PM. The same window with APS plantation shutters closed measured 84.8°F — a 17.6°F drop. Quality wood plantation shutters can reduce HVAC costs by approximately 30-45% on west and south-facing windows. The dense hardwood and tight-fit louvers create a thermal barrier that significantly outperforms blinds, drapes, and roller shades. Most Florida homes see a 20-35% reduction in cooling costs after installing wood plantation shutters on sun-exposed windows. See the actual thermal images.
