Client Requirements
Bay windows, corner windows and narrow openings in one Stuart home
This Rocky Point home in Stuart, FL needed plantation shutters on openings of very different shapes: a bay window in the dining nook, a second bay window above a built-in window seat, a wide home-office window, bedroom windows set at a corner, a tall narrow window beside a closet and a bathroom window above the vanity. AP Shutters installed the first shutters in August 2023 and returned in December 2023 for a follow-up installation in the same home.
The brief
- Fit every section of both bay windows so the louvers line up across the angles.
- Keep one white finish and one louver style from room to room.
- Treat the narrow, corner and bathroom windows as individual openings rather than copies of a standard window.
- Return for a second visit to complete additional openings.

What We Did?
Each bay section measured and built separately
A bay window is more than one wide window. The side sections sit at an angle to the front, and the sections are rarely identical. We measured each section of both bay windows individually and built the shutters in our Palm City shop as a matched set, so the louvers line up whether the panels are open or closed. In the dining nook, the bay has a large center shutter with a narrow shutter on each side. Above the window seat, the wider center section is divided into several panels with a narrow shutter on each side.
Elsewhere in the home we installed a three-panel shutter on the home-office window, shutters on two bedroom windows that meet at a corner, a tall single-panel shutter beside a bedroom closet, a two-panel shutter above the bathroom vanity and a narrow shutter behind a pendant light in a second bedroom.
Why individual measurements matter on bay windows
In a bay, a small error in one section shows up as a gap or a rubbing edge in the next. Measuring each section individually, rather than copying the center window’s size to the sides, is what keeps the finished shutters square to their frames. The same applies to corner windows, where two shutters share a corner and must clear each other when they open.
Planning shutters for a bay window in Stuart
Before ordering, decide how you want the sections to operate: whether the center and side shutters open independently and how far each shutter needs to swing, especially above a window seat or a built-in cabinet. Note anything near the window during the measurement visit, such as a seat cushion, a cabinet or a light fixture. Then compare finish and louver choices across the whole room so the bay matches the other windows.
