Arched Bay Window Shutters in a Hobe Sound Golf Community

Client Requirements
A home in the Hobe Sound Golf Club, a gated community in Hobe Sound, has a bay window with three sections. The center window is rectangular. The two angled side windows have arched tops. The owner wanted all three covered with plantation shutters that follow the arches instead of leaving the tops bare, plus shutters for the other windows in the house. AP Shutters installed the shutters in November 2023.
Bay windows are a common problem for stock window treatments. The side sections meet at an angle, and here the arched tops add a second shape that a rectangular blind cannot cover.
- Cover both arched side windows of the bay with shutters shaped to the arch
- Match the center window so the bay reads as one unit
- Keep the louvers working on all three sections
- Carry the same shutters into the other rooms, including a bedroom window with a crown molding header
Project at a glance: 8 openings and 137.50 square feet of custom real-wood shutters, installed in November 2023 in the Hobe Sound Golf Club.
What We Did?
Arched shutters built to the curve
We built each side shutter as an arched-top panel shaped to the window, so the frame follows the curve and the louvers run all the way up into the arch. A vertical tilt rod on each side panel opens and closes the louvers, including the short ones at the top of the arch. The center window received a two-panel rectangular shutter with the same louvers and frame, so all three sections line up across the bay.
With the louvers open, the bay still looks out to the street and the palms. With the louvers closed, the arched shapes stay visible, and the window looks finished in both positions.
The rest of the house
The other windows received matching shutters. One bedroom window has a crown molding header above the casing; the shutter sits inside the opening and leaves the header and casing in view.

Why arched bay windows take a custom shop
An arch is not a standard size. Each one has its own width, height and curve, and the two sides of a bay are not always identical. Because we build in our own Palm City shop, the arched panels are made to the template of these windows instead of being ordered from a catalog shape. The same shop builds the rectangular panels, so the finish and louvers match. See more on our louvered arch shutters page.
Planning notes for arched and bay windows
- Decide first whether the arch gets its own shaped shutter or stays open above a rectangular one.
- Ask whether the louvers in the arch will tilt, and how.
- Have each side of a bay measured separately; angles and arches can differ by small amounts.
- Use the same frame and louver on all sections so the bay reads as one window.
Questions about arched window shutters
Can plantation shutters cover an arched window? Yes. The panel is shaped to the arch so the frame follows the curve, as on both side windows of this bay.
Do the louvers in an arched shutter open and close? On this job, yes: each arched side panel has a tilt rod that runs into the arch.
Do you work in gated communities in Hobe Sound? Yes. We schedule the measure and the installation with the owner and the community's gate.
