This is a good time to be a consumer as shutter prices have
dropped as much as 20-30% in the past couple of years. If you
are prudent you might save a great deal of money. We would like
to give you an honest assessment of how you might do that and
fully understand your plantation shutter options before you buy.
Beyond louver size, paint color, frame styles, hardware
finish etc., you will have other choices you might not have
considered when you started your search.
Ninety nine percent of all plantation shutters are made from
wood, fiberboard and/or plastic, the majority of which are
manufactured in China. Names such as "Polywood", "Poly", "PVC",
"Faux", "Composite" and many others are used in an attempt to
rename or “glamorize”
these products. Frequently, salespeople will guide you towards
the product(s) that are most profitable for them. We like fair
and
honest
competition and have nothing negative to say about anyone who
calls themselves our competitors. That said there are many
salespeople selling plantation shutters from the back of their
vehicle, but unlike a manufacturer, they have little or no
investment other than buying and reselling shutters for profit.
Energy efficiency is a real part of what you will get from our
wood shutters. Shutters made from PVC never offer the R-Value
(thermal resistance) of wood. We typically offer plastic
shutters in shower stalls or where running water will come in
contact with the shutters. Actually, all plastic/poly/vinyl
shutters contain PVC and if
ignited, PVC emits toxic fumes that can be harmful or
fatal.
The truth is that wood is superior, and plastic and fiberboard
are your alternatives. All three have a place, but if price is
your primary concern, then we offer a dynamic fiberboard product
called the WOODMORE® plantation shutter. Manufactured
exclusively by us in our facility in Palm City, it is less
expensive than wood or plastic. The WOODMORE® is engineered with
ASR™ Technology (Advanced Structural Reinforcement), which
eliminates warping and insures dimensional stability. We are
applying for "Green" status with this product as we manufacture
it from sustainable forest products and implement the same
environmentally friendly processes used throughout all phases of
our manufacturing.
The key here is that we manufacture shutters from all three
materials so we will not try to lead you toward one or the
other. We are very competitively priced on all three.
We'd like to keep dollars and manufacturing jobs alive in
America so we hope you will contact us when you are ready for
plantation shutters.
